On the Tailgate Menu: Pepperoni Pizza Pinwheels

These almost stole the show of all the tailgate food that I had. They were so easy to make and tasted great -everyone loved them! I'll definitely do these again!

Ingredients:

  • 1 (13.8 oz) can refrigerated pizza dough

  • 1/4 cup pizza sauce or tomato pesto

  • 18 slices pepperoni

  • 1/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese

  • Oil mister or cooking spray

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350

  2. Unroll dough onto a work surface, and lightly mist dough with oil or cooking spray

  3. Spread pizza sauce of pesto onto dough; spread right to the edges

  4. Scatter pepperoni slices evenly over dough, and sprinkle with the cheeses

  5. Beginning at a long edge, roll up dough in jelly-roll fashion. Pinch seam to seal but do not seal end of roll

  6. Using a serrated bread knife, cut roll evenly into 12 slices

  7. Place slices, cut sides down, on a baking sheet coated with oil or spray

  8. Bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown

Notes:

Instead of cooking them on a baking sheet, I put them in an oil-coated muffin pan, they kept their shape a lot better. Next time I might add additional ingredients to this like onion or mushroom, but you don't want to overload the dough or I don't think it will hold up when you cut it.
